Dear Dairy Feeder Calf Club Members, May 2019
Our next meeting will be this Thursday, May 16,2019 at 7:00pm in the Beef/Dairy Arena. This is a demonstration meeting. There will be a clipping demonstration, a showmanship clinic, and we’ll talk about the important things to have in your showbox. This meeting is geared towards new and younger members, but all are encouraged to attend. You never know what you might learn!! If your calf is healthy, feel free to bring them in! We would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the members that sold geraniums this year!! Way to sell!! Have you completed the mandatory Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) Program?!?!?! This training NEEDS to be completed by EVERYONE by MAY 15, 2019! You can complete this online ($12). You must register for this training at http://yqca.org.
Essay Question & Community Service Project: For you to complete your project, you must complete either an essay OR a community service project. If you are unable to attend a service project or you choose not to participate in one, you must complete an essay question. Check out the website for length requirements on your essay. Essays: (Choose 1): 1. What characteristics or traits do you look for when purchasing a calf and why? Also, identify 3-5 ailments common in cattle and what are the treatments for these ailments? 2. How is technology changing the farming industry? Service Projects: (Choose 1): 1. June 1, 2019 @ The Fairgrounds, 8:30am-11:00am 2. June 8, 2019 @ Loveway in Bristol, 8:30am-11:00am
**IMPORTANT** Remember to register your calves by May 15, 2019 on 4HOnline. For your animal to be eligible to show at the county fair and/or the state fair, your animal needs to be identified into the 4HOnline database. This is the same database that you used to sign up for 4H. Remember to check out our website regularly. www.dairyfeedercalfclub.com

Dear DFC Families, February 2019
Hello! Our second meeting is Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 7:00pm in the Home and Family Arts Building at the fairgrounds. We will start registration at 6:45pm. Program for the evening will be presented by Dr. Kohlberg from Milford. If you have not paid your club dues yet, please come prepared to take care of this. Dues are $10/member. It goes up $1.00 at the March meeting. If you wish to pay by check, please make it payable to: Dairy Feeder Calf Club.
Remember the Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) Program that is required for completion of your project? All 4-H members who are enrolled in Dairy Feeder have to complete the program every year in order to show at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair and or the Indiana State Fair. There are several dates and times to choose from: March 18th at 6:30pm, April 5th at 1:00pm, April 29th at 6:30pm, and May 9th at 6:30pm. This training needs to be completed by May 15, 2019!!!! You can either complete this online ($12) or In-person training ($3). Registrations for both online and In-person training will need to be competed at http://yqca.org. You must preregister to participate in the IN-Person training. If you have any questions on this, please contact Robert Kelly in the extension office.
Are you selling geraniums?!?!?! This is an excellent fundraiser for the club and the 4-H program. For each plant we sell, our club will receive $0.25 back as a sales reward. Geraniums will be selling for $1.25 per plant again this year. They will be available in red, white and pink colors. We are also selling hanging baskets for $15/each. Our club is only allotted 147 hanging baskets to sell. We will sell these on a first come, first paid basis. We will pre-sell these at our February meeting. If you want to buy them after that, you will need to contact Jodi Evans (574-536-0141) and the money has to be paid up front to order them. Orders and money are due NO LATER than March 11th to Jodi Evans. Pickup of flowers is on April 24th at the fairgrounds from 3-6pm. Mail all orders and money to: Jodi Evans, PO Box 416, Bristol, IN 46507. Each member is asked to sell one flat of geraniums (18 plants) or three hanging baskets for stall requests.
Club Officers were elected at our January meeting. Your 2019 Club officers are: Andrew Lengacher, Keaton Kitson, Grace Brenneman, Grace Caffee and Zach Klotz. Congratulationsl!!

Dear 4-Her’s and DFC Families,
Welcome to another fun and exciting year of 4-H!! Our first meeting is Thursday, January 17, 2018 at 7:00pm. We will be meeting in the Home & Family Arts Building at the fairgrounds. Registration starts at 6:45pm. Watch your local television stations for cancellation if the weather is bad. Also, check your email, text messages or the website.
The program for the evening will consist of basic club information, changes made from 2018 and station rotations. Also, planned for the evening is electing club officers. We will be electing our president, vice president, secretary, and treasure. If you are interested or know someone that is interested in being an officer, please come to the meeting and get your name on the ballot. Please contact a leader if for some reason, you are unable to make it to the meeting, but would like to be added to the ballot.
We have a new weight rule change for this coming year. Please take note of rule #7 under the DFC Manual tab. Come with any and all questions you may have on it to the meeting.
Club dues are $10 per 4-Her if paid at the January or February meetings. Dues go up by $1 each month after February. $11 if paid in March. $12 if paid in April. $13 if paid in May. $14 if paid in June. $15 if paid in July. You will not be able to draw your auction order number at the May weigh in until your dues are paid. If you do not draw a number at the May weigh in, you are automatically put at the end of the auction order.
